Husbandry

What does a Ladoum sheep eat?

The base: ad-lib forage (groundnut haulm, straw) plus a concentrate (bran, groundnut cake, cowpea) in two daily meals, a permanent mineral lick and clean water ad lib — 5 to 10 litres a day for an adult.

Quantities adjust to age and condition: a growing youngster typically receives 300–800 g of concentrate daily, a lactating ewe more. Show over-feeding (concentrate stuffing) is a trap: it causes acidosis and laminitis and ruins breeding stock.

Our feeding guide details rations by age and season.
