The golden rule: a high-value animal deserves a regular veterinarian. Set up a yearly prophylaxis calendar with them and keep a health register per animal — it is also a precious part of the pedigree.

Priorities in Senegal: vaccination against PPR (peste des petits ruminants) and sheep pox, internal deworming 3–4 times a year (adjusted to the rainy season, the peak risk period), and regular control of external parasites (ticks, mange) by dipping or pour-on.

Watch the simple signals daily: appetite, rumination, droppings, gait, eyes and mucous membranes. A Ladoum that refuses its concentrate is a Ladoum brewing something. Footrot is prevented by regular hoof trimming and dry bedding.

Systematically isolate any incoming animal for two to three weeks before joining the herd: quarantine is the most cost-effective health measure there is. And a breeding-ethics reminder: no doping products or hormones — the industry bans them and they destroy breeding stock.
