What is the difference between the Ladoum and the Touabire?

The Touabire is an ordinary-sized short-haired Moorish sheep; the Ladoum stands apart with a far larger frame, a stretched silhouette and a regal bearing. Historically a Ladoum already sold for seven times the price of a Touabire in colonial times.

Whether the Ladoum descends from the Touabire or constitutes a distinct breed since antiquity is debated. OS Ladoum's documentary work (backed by colonial sources) argues the latter: Ladem herders kept pure strains and refused crossbreeding. What is certain: in the ring as on the market, the two breeds do not play in the same league.
